Interactive agency celebrates 10 successful years

BLUE Turns TenIn an age when many fledgling companies sadly don’t make it past their first year, BLUE is still more than going strong after ten. Starting out with just three people in a shophouse, the agency has grown to become a WPP Digital company with 120 employees, five global offices and some of the world’s biggest brands on their books.

With the early years marked by global challenges including the dot-com crash, 9/11 and SARS, how did BLUE successfully ride out the storm? Managing Director, Chester Tan, explains, “Right from day one we’ve always approached the business prudently and pragmatically. Our competitors at the time were on a carefree hiring spree and basing themselves in nice plush offices. We set down a pre-determined course and slowly added on our staff and service offering based on what our business could sustain. We also adapted our service offering, instead of only building websites and microsites we started offering consulting and planning services to see how we could monetise these digital assets.”

Styling itself as ‘The Measurable Marketing Company’, the interactive shop prides itself on being channel agnostic and on making solid strategic recommendations that will yield some form of measurable business impact. And it seems to have paid off. Back in July BLUE won the coveted Agency of the Year gong at the 2009 Marketing Magazine Awards. They also picked up two golds, one silver and a bronze in four main categories.

CEO Kenny Powar said of the awards, which are based purely on the opinions of clients, “We’ve always believed that if you focus on truly meeting the needs of your clients, the rest will follow. Our success at this year’s awards is certainly testament to that”.

BLUE will be celebrating its big birthday with an evening bash at its oceanfront headquarters.
