Symbian Foundation Website
Challenge
Symbian as a proprietary mobile phone platform was challenged with the release of Google Android and Apple iPhone OS. As such, Symbian responded by turning the OS into a freely available open source platform. Nokia divested their sole interests to setup the Symbian Foundation with joint partners such as Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Vodafone.
Solution
The Symbian Foundation website for developers was designed to be in the ethos of open source/Web 2.0 – the entire code base was put onto a Wiki and forum platform to allow anyone to download the code and upload their amendments/changes. Starting with the user experience strategy, BLUE was involved with the information architecture, user interface, concept-testing, site development and application integration and deployment.
Results
BLUE successfully went from strategy to concept and then from integration to deployment for the global website in a limited space of 5 months.
